AbstractWater Distribution System Optimization Using MapObjects and Genetic Algorithms Track: Water Distribution, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Paul Fares Boulos Many powerful water distribution optimization algorithms exist but few are currently in use by water utilities mainly due to the lack of suitable packaging. This paper presents a comprehensive decision support system for use in the effective management of water distribution systems. The software system links a geographic information system technology for spatial database management and analysis with network simulation and optimization theory. The optimization model automates network calibration and solves the least-cost design, rehabilitation, and pump scheduling problems. The graphical interface is developed using MapObjects and provides an informative structured framework for network model construction, optimization, and results presentation.
