Abstract
Intelligent Management of Multi-Modal Network DataTrack: Transportation and Logistics

The Transportation Object Platform (TOP) is a data storage and management platform developed to ease the maintenance and use of transportation-related data such as network data, infrastructure data, and planning data. TOP is an open and extensible object model created as an extension to the ArcInfo 8 geodatabase. TOP is developed using custom behavior classes in the geodatabase making it possible to implement forced intelligent relations and rules between objects. These rules apply to all applications, which are clients of the platform. By using ArcMap to edit geographic and tabular objects, work processes are eased while the full topological complexity of any transportation-related model is retained. A suite of related tools is provided for analysis, modeling, and presentation purposes.
- Editing, managing, and maintaining complex multimodal network data (including physical networks, routes, time patterns, schedules, interchanges, terminals, etc.)
- Add-on visualization and editing tools for complex objects such as turns and terminals, 3D visualization of timetables, tools for displaying results (e.g., bundles that use a certain network segment, sheaves between two locations, and transfer patterns in a terminal)
- Tools for handling demand data (trip matrices and freight delivery tables)
- Complex analysis applications (multimodal transport models, system equilibrium assignment models, accessibility studies, timetable optimization and evaluation, etc.)
- Methods for managing hierarchical versioning and scenarios
TOP provides a strong GIS-based solution for transport planning authorities, infrastructure owners, operators and their customers, as well as for application developers and consultants for such organizations.
