Abstract
Ground-Based Landscape Planning in a Mendocino County Redwood ForestTrack: Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management

Mendocino Redwood Company (MRC) manages 232,000 acres in Mendocino County, California. This paper presents the use of GIS and related technologies in strategic planning on MRC's forestlands. A multidisciplinary approach to resource management is required. Economic and ecologic goals are achieved with input from forestry, watershed analysis, wildlife, and GIS. GIS route-based networks linked to the harvest scheduling model provide a tool to reduce negative road impacts at the watershed level.
