AbstractGIS Technology in the Canadian Ice and Marine Service Track: Ocean, Coastal, and Marine Resources Author(s): Awtar Koonar This paper presents the current and future application of GIS technology in the Canadian Ice and Marine Service (CIMS). CIMS provides timely and accurate ice information for day-to-day decision support in Canadian waters. The acquisition, processing, and integration of real-time data is essential for this task. Since 1995, the Ice Service Integrated System (ISIS) in Ottawa, Canada, has successfully processed significant volumes of diverse digital data within the fixed constraints of a daily production and delivery schedule. This paper explores the migration of mission-critical ISIS technology into even more challenging physical environments such as remote offices, aircraft, and icebreakers.
