AbstractCommunity Safety Information System in Winston-Salem, North Carolina Track: Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Author(s): Julia B Conley Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was the first community to develop a community safety information system (CSIS) as part of the Department of Justice (DOJ)-sponsored Strategic Approaches to Community Safety Initiative (SACSI). The successful focus of the Winston-Salem initiative has been on the implementation of research-based strategies to reduce and prevent juvenile violence. CSIS, an Internet Map Server application that integrates diverse community data from multiple agencies, was developed as an analytical tool to assist the local SACSI efforts. CSIS has been enhanced to expand its functionality. The local SACSI has been awarded a $1.8 million grant from a local charitable trust to establish a Center for Community Safety at the Winston-Salem State University campus. Our work to reduce juvenile violence and improve community safety continues.
