AbstractAccess to GIS Data in a Large Administration Using ArcIMS Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Paolo Viskanic, Tarcisio Coianiz The Esri Internet Map Server offers a wide range of opportunities for distributing GIS data within a large administration. Local administrations in South Tyrol, Italy, have developed ArcIMS map services that allow not only the consultation and interrogation of geographic data and of the connected ODBC data sources but also the production of standard certificates based on GIS data, basic analysis of the data, and limited editing. On the client site, only standard Internet browsers and Java applets are used, thus limiting installation, maintenance, and training costs. The paper illustrates examples of applications as currently tested and in use in the Town of Merano, Italy.
