AbstractGIS Applications in Milwaukee Transit Planning Studies Track: Transportation and Logistics Author(s): Jennifer Reek, Mark Kaminski This paper presents the use of GIS to analyze alternative transit modes including buses in exclusive lanes, light rail, and aerial transit, for a Milwaukee Transit Study. The study is designed to identify, examine, and evaluate alternative transit systems that will link together downtown attractions, hotels, residential areas, shopping and business locations, and employment centers. A comprehensive system was developed to assess land use and development opportunities, transit engineering/operational components, traffic and transportation impacts, and environmental impacts. The paper presents lessons learned in data integration from multiple sources, project team education on applications and uses, and the detailed GIS analysis. Jennifer Reek HNTB Corporation 11414 W.
