AbstractBuilding Community GIS Educational Applications Track: K-12 Education and Library Science Author(s): Steve Whitney, Robert MacAuthur, Matt Rahr The City of Tucson, Pima County, and the University of Arizona are building GIS applications that extend beyond the typical domain of IT experts. These applications, using real-world data, are aimed at K-12 and public education venues. With them, users will learn GIS while they track neighborhood crime, property value fluctuations, desirable places to live, and so on. They will also make use of an extensive set of online orthophotos and multispectral data. The goal is to tease these nontechnical users into learning a complex technology while they do useful things.
