AbstractBuilding a California Kelp Knowledge Database Using GIS Track: Ocean, Coastal, and Marine Resources Author(s): Paul Veisze California kelp is among the most important resources in the State's coastal ecosystem. This paper will describe the Department of Fish and Game's State-wide digital archive of kelp information, with the methodology focus on its data types and processing methods including aerial photography, satellite imagery, scanning, georeferencing, custom programming, and documentation. Conclusions will include lessons learned and an overview of applications.
