Abstract

Paper  Integrating Land Databases into a Unified Desktop GIS
Track: Petroleum
Author(s): Michael Frederick Tepera, Todd Buehlman Joseph Buehlman

The Petroleum Land Analysis Tool (PLAT) is a custom extension to ArcView. PLAT's business objective is to integrate the client's multiple existing land information databases into a unified desktop GIS, which allows the effective management, query, analysis, and mapping of this spatial and textual land data. The GUI provides point-and-click query creation in plain English, hiding end-users from database complexity. Queries are translated on-the-fly to SQL and passed on to the appropriate database. PLAT delivers instant customized map-making as well. All business language, database information, and data sources are integrated with PLAT by configuring an XML formatted Application Meta-Database.
