Abstract

Paper  Assessment of a Land Use Plan on Water Resources Using L-THIA
Track: State and Local Government
Author(s): Renee Lynn Gunn

The L-THIA (Long-Term Hydrologic Impact Assessment) model was used to assess the implementation of a county comprehensive land use plan on water resources. Comprehensive land use plans are being created or updated in many Indiana counties. L-THIA can be used to quickly assess the average annual runoff and loading of several nonpoint source pollutants from various zoning and land use changes in the county. One county was chosen to demonstrate the process of using a county comprehensive land use plan as the data source for a L-THIA analysis. A comparison was also made between the present plan and a proposed plan that controlled growth.
