The First Ligon Historians

The middle school principal, Steve Takacs, initiated the first phase of this project in October 1998 with a web based archive in which all graduates of Ligon High School were listed in a database. Email addresses were included when available so that alumni could contact each other.

The original database entry was the work of four students, the first "Ligon Historians," facilitated by Ann Thompson, technology teacher. These students generated documents for the LHS Archive web site with a directory of graduates by year of graduation. Class histories and images from yearbooks were also included. As the vision for expanding the project grew, the school sought ways to contact alumni to introduce them to their web site and see if they were interested in recording the history of Ligon High School.

Publicity for this project in the local newspaper, in an article entitled "Looking Back," attracted the attention of local alumni who immediately got actively involved so that the story would be told "the RIGHT way."
